THE GAS WORKS.

MANAGER’S REPORT

At Monday night's Council meeting the Manager of the gas works submitted the following report : —■ “In submitting a monthly report, I beg to say the gas fitting in the new consumers' houses are finished as far as I can go at present. There are a few jobs I shall have to finish later on. The number oi meters in use will be, when I have finished, 223, being an increase, since you took the work over, of 86 ; 70 of these have been fitted during the last three months. I think you will agree with me that this is very satisfactory, in fact, for a town the size ot Foxtou, when the gas works have been running three years, I believe it to be a record. The gas sales have reached over 40,000 ft. more this last month than it was the best month last winter. I expect some cookers here any day now. They are all ordered, and I will fix them as soon as they arrive. I understand from Mr Fraser that the Eevin Borough Council want you to join them in getting a lady to give lessons in cooking. This is, I think, a step in the right direction, and is likely to do the gas industry a lot of good.” The report was adopted.
