POLITICAL.
Mr Byron Brown will introduce something of a novelty in his address to the Foxton electors in the Coronation Hall on Tuesday evening next. His hearers will have the monotony of politics relieved by a Shakcsperian recital and humorous recitations by the candidate and his talented daughter, Miss Pauline Brown. Both Mr and Miss Brown are prize-winners in elocutionary competitions and are well worth hearing. Mr W. H. Field will address the electors in the Coronation Hall this evening and will also deliver addresses as under : —Oroua, Bridge Tuesday, Glen Oroua Wednesday, Himataugi Thursday, and Taikorea Friday. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Hadfield, of Hadfield, gave an “at home” in the Coronation Hall Paraparaumu, to meet Mr and Mrs C. A. W. Mouckton. Two hundred and fifty invitations were issued and the majority of those invited availed themselves of Mrs Hadfield’s hospitality. The hall was beautifully decorated and furnished as a drawing room, Afternoon tea was served and many items, both vocal and instrumental, were listened to with great pleasure by the many guests present. In the evening Mr Monckton spoke to about 150 electors, quite half the audience being ladies. Mr W. Howell in the chair. The candidate spoke for an hour and a half and had an appreciative audience. He was asked several questions, his answers to the same being greeted with applause. The meeting terminated with the usual votes to the speaker and chair.
