MANAWATU COUNTY ELECTION.
The election of councillors in the various ridings of the Manawatu County took place yesterday. Messrs Barber (sitting member) and W. S. Carter contested the Awahou Riding and Whirokiuo sub-division, which resulted in the return of the silting member, Mr Barber. The voting was as follows : Barber, W. E. Carter, W. S. Moutoa Booth 39 17 Himataugi B’th xS 3 Totals 57 20 Mr Alf. Fraser was in charge of the Moutoa polling booth, and Mr Cockburu the booth at Himataugi. The results of the elections m the other Ridings were as lollows : Sandon.—Phillips 66, Masters 58. Rongotea. —Hunt 78, Hopping 50. Kawakawa. —Gray 71, Kendall 49. In the Awahou and Rongotea Ridings, the sitting members, Messrs Barber and Hunt, retained their seats, but in the Sandon and Kawakawa Ridings the previous members, Messrs Masters and Kendall, were deleated. Mr T. Masters had represented his Riding for the past 21 years, having succeeded the late Mr Henry Sanson.
