DROWNING FATALITIES.
Marton, Oct. 29. F. Schvvass, farmer, of Turakiua Valley, was drowned in the Turakina river on Saturday, He was driving across in a dray, which capsized. His companion drifted to some overhanging willows, and was rescued. The horse was drowned. So far Schwass’s body has not been recovered. Palmerston, Oct. 29, Yesterday afternoon a drowning accident occurred in the Maugaone stream. The eight-year-old son of Mr A. H. Dufresne, a wellknown Palmerston builder and contractor, was paddling in the stream with some older boys, who left him for a while. When they returned they discovered him floating head downwards in deep water. He had evidently got out of his depth and had no one to help him. The body has not yet been recovered.
