THE NEW ZEALAND “BOOK OF THE YEAR ”
For several years past the standard of the illustrating art in Dominion has been set by New Zealand Illustrated, the Christmas Annual or The Weekly Press. This year’s issue has placed it higher than ever. New Zealand boasts the most beautiful and most varied scenery in the world, and in New Zealand Illustrated we have placed before us magnificent views of bush, river, beach and mountain, from all parts of the Dominion, making this annual one of the finest Christmas presents which the colonist can send to his friends in the Old Hand. The contents of the book are good, and the supplements, of which there are two, are better. The principal one is a perfect reproduction of C. Haite’s beautiful water-colom, The Old Campanile, Venice, one of the finest examples of this celebrated artist. The second supplement shows a great panorama of the Southern Alps from the Hooker Range. So artistically has the picture been reproduced that in imagination one feels the cool mountain air and its revivifying effects. It would be impossible to close a notice of this beautiful annual without reference to the artistic cover. Suffice it to say, it is fully up to the standard of the best The Weekly Press has turned out, having both beauty and distinction.
We anticipate there will be a rapid and heavy demand for this annual, and we advise those who wish to procure one or more copies to make their wants known to their newspaper agents eaily.
