LEVIN TO GREATFORD RAILWAY.

During the second reading of the Railways Authorisation Bill in the House yesterday, Mr E. Newman expressed regret that the Bill made no mention of the LeviuMartou railway, especially as a survey was promised a good while ago.

Mr W. H. Field asked for an announcement regarding the proposed deviation of the Main Trunk line from Levin to Greatford by way of Foxton. He was convinced that it would be of enormous benefit to the district and the Dominion.

The Hon. R. McKenzie in reply said the question had been considered for some time, but other railways should be taken in hand first, because the places without railways had first claim. Bui lie would go over the deviation at the earliest opportunity.
