MUNICIPAL, BATH
The Municipal plain and fam ■ dress ball in connection with • opening ceremonies of the Cor tiou Town Hall took place®' uight, and was fairly well patr ised. The somewhat boisterous weather interfered with the attend- W ance from a distance. Wi .fl a little more attention the floor ‘Aj will be one of the best in the dis- * trict for dance purposes. The music, supplied by Hanley’s Band, jj was all that could be desired. There were very few onlookers, and this is accounted for by the fact that greater counter attractions are awaiting them to-night and next week. Only a small percentage ot ladies and gentlemen appeared in fancy costume, and the judge’s task of awarding c the prizes in this connection was 1 not difficult. Some very charming dresses were worn by a f number of the ladies. A number of non-dancers occupied the stage, which provided comfortable seating accommodation, access to which was obtained by a stairway fmm the body of the hall. The suppei room was in charge of Mr M. Perreau, and the table decorations were very fine, and the catering was excellent. Mrs Adams, charmingly attired as “ Dutch girl,” secured th p ifl for the best lady’s fancy dress, a. Mr F. Eevett, “Cavalier,” the I gent’s. Others iu fancy dres« Ji were as follow: R. Ast ini. “ Uncle Sam” ; Mrs Cunningham “ Dawn ” ; Miss Johusto,., “ Night ” ; Miss Eumsden, “ German peasant girl”; Miss Fraser, “ Climbing Roses ” ; . K. Smith, “Night”; Miss Smith, “Summer”; Miss Bowe, “Spring.” The duties o f J M’s.C. were efficiently carried on: Jfl by Councillors Adams and Carf and Mr Alf. Fraser. The affau was a decided social success. Mr E- G. West, of Palmerston N., and architect of the building, officiated as judge ot the fancy dresses, and his decisions met with the entire approval of those present. MUNICIPAL PICTURES TONIGHT.
At the Coronation Hall to-night an entirely new sec of pictures will be screened, particulars of which are set out in our advertising columns, which should attract a large audience. PRESBYTERIAN CARNIVAE. In connection with the forthcoming Carnival next Friday and Saturday, the children have now completed their preparations and will be able to give a splendid exhibition. The several items by the little ones will consist of a pageant of Empire, in which Britannia will be addressed by representatives of the several overseas Dominions who will group in an attractive manner in pyramid form. The Book of the Empire will be a', dialogue of fifteen girls and boys by means of which the history of the English Bible will be set forth, and lastly the sports of the Empire will be represented by an oh.' world gala-day demonstration the form ol a series of graceful figures and movements by the flower girls, the crowning of th Queen 01 the May who appears on the stage in a flower carriage drawn by four lively ponies, and the Maypole dance. Suitable choruses will be sung and fine lime light effects will make the representation one of the fin...
