Wellington, Oct. 9

Mailers iu connection with the Merchant’s Service Guild dispute are still at a deadlock. A subcommittee, composed of representatives of both parties, Commissioner Halley presiding, met on Saturday evening and practically suggested the Guild’s demands regarding hours of work, which is the chief point now iu dispute, being granted by the employers. This morning the employers refused to go any further than the compromise of Saturday's Conference, while the Guild demanded that payment for overtime should be distinctly stated. Both sides are standing firm.
