THE COMING ELECTION.
REFORM PARTY CANDIDATES.
The Reform Party will be represented by an accredited candidate in the seventy-six contests which will be waged in the general elections at the end of the year. In almost all the electorates, arrangements have been made for a vigorous campaign.
The following will be the candidates of the Reform Party for the seats named :
Bay of Islands —Mr G. Wilkinson, chairman of the Mougonui County Council. Marsden —Mr F. Mander, the present member. Kaipara—Either Mr Field, solicitor of Dargaville, or Mr A. E. Harding, farmer, at Maugawai.
At the election of 1908, Mr Harding opposed Mr J. Stallworthy, who now represents the district, and was defeated by only 283 votes.
Waitemata —MrL. R. Phillips, the present member, and a supporter of the Opposition, will not contest the seat again. Mr Harris will be the accredited party candidate.
Grey Lynn—Mr W. H. Murray, Mayor of Grey Lynn, and a member of the Auckland Education Board. Eden —Mr John Bollard, the sitting member. Auckland Central —Mr J. C. Mackay. Parnell —Mr E. G. B. Moss, who was defeated by Mr F. Lawry at the last election by 2t9 votes. Manukau —Mr F. W. Lang, the sitting member. Auckland West —Mr Bradney. Raglan —Mr R. F”. Bollard, a sou of Mr J. Bollard, M.P., who is a farmer in the Waikato.
Franklin-—Mr W. F. Massey, Deader of the Opposition. Ohinemuri —Mr N. Mcßobie, a newspaper proprietor at Waihi. Taurauga—Mr W. H. Herries, the sitting member. Bay ol Plenty—MrC. A, Delautour, a sou of a former member of the House of Representatives, will probably represent the party in the contest for this seat.
Hawke’s Bay Mr H. M. Campbell, a young farmer in the
province will engage in his first political campaign. Napier—Mr G. Nelson, the proprietor of a meat-preserving business.
Waipawa —Mr G. Hunter, who polled only fifty votes fewer that Mr Hall at the 1908 elections. Mr Hunter sat in the Parfiameut of 1897-99. Pahiatua—Mr J. H. Escott, a well-known settler, and president of the Pahiatua Farmers’ Union.
Maslertou —Either Mr G. Sykes secretary of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, or Mr A. H. Herbert, Mayor of Eketahuna, neither of whom has previously been a candidate for Parliament. Wairarapa Mr W. C. Buchanan, the sitting member.
Taumaruuui —Mr C. Wilson. Egmoat Mr B. Dive, the sitting member. Taranaki —Mr H. J. Okey, the sitting member. Patea —Mr G. V. Pearce, the sitting member. Stratford —Mr J. B. Mine, the sitting member. Wanganui —Mr G. Hutchison, formerly member for Patea, Waimarino —Mr F. F. Hockly, who opposed Mr R. W. Smith at the by-election. Oroua —Mr D. H. Guthrie, the sitting member. Palmerston —Mr D. Buick, the sitting member. Rangitikei —Mr E. Newman, the sitting member.
Otaki—Mr C. A. W. Moncktou, a farmer resident in the district for several years. Formerly he held a position under the Imperial Government in New Guinea. Wellington North—Mr A. E. Herdmau, the sitting member. Hutt—Mr R. W. Shortt, who contested the seat three years ago. Wellington Central —Mr F. M. B. Fisher, the sitting member. Wellington East —Dr. Newman. Wellington South—Mr R. A. Wright, the sitting member. Motueka Mr R. Smith, a farmer at Hope, Nelson—Mr Bishop. Grey—Mr Russell, Mayor of Greymouth. Buller—Mr Fergus F. Munro, who stood against the Hon. R. McKenzie last election.
Wairau-—Mr J. Duncan, the sitting member, an Independent, who is virtually a supporter of the Opposition.
Hurunui—Mr D. H. Macfarlane the owner of a sheep station in the Amuri district.
Kaiapoi—Mr R. Moore, whose defeat by the Hon. D. Buddo in rpoS was by the narrow margin of 77 votes. Christchurch Hast —Mr A. S. Taylor, solicitor, and a member of the Christchurch City Council. Christchurch North—Mr J. D. Hall, who contested the seat against Mr I*. M. Isitt at the recent by-election. Hllesmere—Mr R. H. Rhodes, the sitting member. Selwyn—Mr C. A. C. Hardy, the sitting member. Ashburton —MrW. Nosworthy, the sitting member. Temuka —Hither Mr G. W. Armitage or Colonel J. T. M. Hayhurst, both of whom are knowni in the public life of South-* Canterbury. Waitaki —Mr H. H. Smith, a sheep farmer at Albury. CP . v 1 r—Mr K. P. Cee, a wellk . • ; the i .... ;j. Cvi.cu! —Mr k.
