MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS.
Mr F. Woods, clerk of the court, has furnished us with the following returns of the business transacted at the local Court for the quarter ended September 30th, 1911. During the quarter three sittings were presided over by the Magistrate and nine by Justices of the Peace. CIVIL. Thirty seven civil cases were heard by the Magistrate. The amount sued for was £5 2 9 *Bs *d, and the amount recovered 2s 2d.
One application was heard in Chambers, 36 plaints were entered, three warrants issued, 5 judgment summonses, and two orders were made on judgment summonses. Sixty nine summonses were served and 10 warrants executed. The amount of fines paid in stamps was ,£ll 19s. CRIMINALTwenty seven persons were apprehended or summoned, and all were convicted. Sixteen were fined, 2 imprisoned, 1 dealt with under the Probation Act, 7 orders made and one discharged with a caution.
The fines and fees paid in stamps amounted to 4s. OLD AGE TENSIONS. Three old age pensions were granted during the quarter.
