CATHOLIC SOCIAL.

Another of the series of socials held under the auspices of St. Mary’s Church took place in the new schoolroom last night. Again there was a large audience and the function was voted one of the most successful of the series. The secretary, Mr Golder, had gone to considerable trouble to prepare the floor of the building for dancing, calling in the services of a horse to drag a sack of grain over the floor. i • risic was under

the supervision of Mr F. C. Berthold and included Coulan’s band of four instruments. Vocal items were contributed by Mesdames Boyes, Whincop, McKenzie, Duggan, Miss King, Messrs B. Hooker, Horublow, Smith and J. Golder. New talent was unearthed in Mrs Whincop, (late of St. Mary’s Church choir, Wellington), who possesses a very cultivated voice which should be in demand at future concerts. Messrs Dr. Adams, M. Perreau and Dudson officiated as M’s.C. Refreshments were provided by the lady members of the denomination and this department was ably presided over by Mrs Hooker senr. Both from a financial and social point of view the function was very successful.
