THE WORLD S LARGEST LINER.
The world’s largest liner, the White Star Olympic, left New York for Southampton recently with the biggest cargo of American millionaires that any one ship ever carried. Among her saloon passengers, were between forty and filly millionaires and multi-mil-lionaires. There were also numerous wealthy families among the other saloon passengers, so that the Olympic on this voyage was the richest ship that ever left port. There were eight railway presidents, nine or ten bankers, aud thirty or forty merchant princes on board the liner, aud all her cabins
were full. The newspapers state that the total passage money for the eastward trip is ,£65,000, while the cost of working the steamer for one round trip is ,£35,000. During the week that the Olympic was in New York, the commissariat department had been one of New York's busiest centres. The following quantities of food were taken on board for consumption during the voyage : —35,0001b of beef, io,ooolb mutton, 2,0001 b veal, 3,0001 b pork, 8,000 chickens, 7,0001 u lish, 2,000 lobsters, 5,000 guinea liens, 400 turkeys, 8,000 gallons of milk, 100 gallons ol cream, 6,0001 b of butter, 3,000 eggs, 30 tons of potatoes, 1,500 quarts of ice cream, 200 barrels of vegetables, 200 barrels of flour, and 770 boxes of fruit.
