The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, September 7, 1911. NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The construction of the Beach Road has been hung up by reason of an irregularity on the part of the Council’s officer. Before a loan can be raised certain formalities have to be gone through including advertising the special order at certain intervals. This is where the hitch has occurred. Cr Barber has been anxious that the road should be ready for the coming season and is, naturally, very annoyed that such a trivial and technical breach should stand in the way of its commencement. He hopes, however, that an Order-in-Council will validate the irregularity, as the Council had everything in readiness to proceed with the work. So far as this jounal is concerned the advertisement has been inserted in the usual way, once in every week for four weeks, and in accordance with written instructions. We hope the Dapartment will not allow such an important work to be hung up by reason of such a trivial error.
