KAPITI ISLAND.

MR FIELD WANTS PARTICULARS.

Particulars respecting Kapiti are desired by Mr W. H. Field, who is asking for a return showing : (1) The total area of the island, showing (a) the area vested in the Crown and under negotiation for purchase from native owners by the Crown, and (b) the area still vested in the native owners in respect of which no negotiations for purchase are in progress, giving in each case the name and number of each block ; (2) the total area, approximately, in native forest on that portion of the island which is vested in the Crown, or is under negotiation f r purchase, and also the area in grass, tawhinu, manuka, or other scrub (3) the total cost (including interest to date at current rates) to the Crown of that portion of the island already acquired by the Crown (including all compensation paid, differentiating between principal and interest, and to whom paid), all law costs, all wages, and all other State expenditure of whatever nature upon the island to date ; (4) all revenue (if any) received by the Crown from the island since the passing of the Kapiti Island Public Reserve Act, 1597 ; and (5) a list of all birds and other animals placed on the island by the Government, and the results so far as known.
