POLITICAL.
(Own Correspondent.)
There was a fairly large attendance at Mr Robensou’s meeting at Shannon on Saturday night. Mr Selby occupied the chair. The speaker gave a short speech, promising to return later and go further into details. He did not seem at bis best, and the meeting could hardly be called enthusiastic. At the close, several questions were asked and satislactorily answered by the candidate. (Questioned on No-License and compulsory military training, he favoured the bare majority for the former, and was opposed to the latter. He dwelt mostly on the evils of the land laws. At the conclusion, the following motion, proposed by Mr T, Hensmau, seconded by Mr J. Barclay, “Ihat this meeting considers the speaker a fit and proper person to represent the Otaki electorate in Parliament,” was carried. An amendment, expressing thanks only, proposed by Mr John Mitchell, seconded by Mr E. Law, was lost.
