Dunedin, August 28, Marion McKinnon, a widow, residing at St. Clair, aged seventyeight years, disappeared this morning. Eater, her body was found washed up on the beach. Napier, August 28. John O’Brien, a very old resident of the Port, was found dead in an outhouse of the Crown Hotel. Deceased was of temperate habits, and death was probably due to heart failure. Bank deposit slips for were found in his clothes pocket. New Plymouth, August 28. An inquest was held on a Maori who committed suicide near Waitara by chopping his head with an axe. Dr. Wylie said that the man must Lave been in a state of intense frenzy when he committed the deed, and, as far as he knew, the act might be described as a unique way of committing suicide.
Thames, August 28. A man named William Jackson has been found dead in the bush at Turau. He left his home at Turua on Sunnay morning to go to a slaughterhouse, where he is employed, and as he did not return for dinner, a search was made. Jackson was found late in the afternoon lying face-down-wards on a stump. He was not then dead. A party with a trolly went to fetch him home, but by the time it arrived he had expired, As his jaw was broken, it is presumed he took a fit and fell face downwards, and in this manner sustained the injury.
