NATIVE LAND PURCHASES.
At the instance of Mr Herries, a return has been presented to Parliament showing the acreage ol land purchased by the Crown from tbe natives in each year since the resumption of purchase in 1905, together with the area opened for settlements, and also that area occupied by Europeans under tbe provisions of the Laud Act. The figures are as follows :
The area at present occupied by Europeans is 64,533 acres. The above does not include any purchases under the Native Land Act, 1909-
