PALMERSTON SITTINGS.
At the Supreme Court, Palmerston North yesterday, Pine Amiui, a well-dressed Native, but one who has spent the greater part of the past seven years In gaol, and whose exploits have earned for him the sobriquet ot “ The Maori spieler,” appeared in the dock be fore his Honour the Chief Justice, and pleaded not guilty to a charge that on July 21, at Palmerston, he did steal from the person of Ahonga Mobi the sum ot £2s, and a cheque hook and pocket book valued at 43 qd. Accused was found guilty and was sentenced to two years’ hard labour and was declared an habitual criminal.
Frank P. Brulord was charged with obtaining from W. Dwyer, at Hunterville on or about March 13, by means of a false pretence, namely, representing that was held on his account by means of a false pretence, namely representing that was held on his account by a person in Dunedin.
Accused was not represented by counsel and pleaded not guilty. The jury returned a verdict of guilty with a recommendation to mercy and Bruford was remanded till the following day lor sentence.
