CHRISTCHURCH BY-ELEC-TION.
VICTORY FOR MR ISITT. Christchurch August 17. The by-election for Christchurch North took place to-day in fintyw weather. The polling was heavy, 6920 out of 10,000 on the roll recording votes as compared with 7437 at last General Election. The results were got in very promptly, the last coming to hand shortly after eight o’clock. The following is the result of the polling. — L. M. Isitt ... 38x4 J. D. Hall ... 310 G Majority for Isitt 708 At the general election of 1908 the contest for this seat resulted : T. E. Taylor (I) 4365 C. M. Gray fG) 2667 R. J. Eckroyd (G) 405 Majority over Gray 1698 Majority over total Govt, vote 1293 In 1905, the first election which the cities were divided into separate electorates, Mr C. M. Gray defeated the late Mr Taylor by 1067 votes, the figures being :— Gray, 4066 ; Taylor, 2999-
