Residents of Foxton will be interested in the announcement appearing in our advertising columns to the effect that Sousa, the “ March King,” and his world-famed band of sixty performers, will perform at the Municipal Opera House, Palmerston North, on Monday, August 21st. Two performances will be given on Hut dale, one at 2.30 in the afternoon, and the other at 8 in the evening. The afternoon concert will enable residents of this town and district to hear the famous baud and return home again the same day. The box plans will be opened at Mr W. Park’s shop in Palmerston on Monday, August 14th, when applications for seats from outside the town will receive equal consideration to those from Palmerston patrons. Enormous iute rest is centred right throughout the dominion in the visit of Sousa and his complete band. The band and its famous leader has won worldwide fame. Mr Sousa’s fame as “ the March King ” is a matter of musical history. He has composed no less than one hundred stirring martial strains. In addition to this, he has written ten operas, and many orchestral suites, songs and waltzes. The entire Australasian tour will be brought within the compass of fifteen weeks, and apart from the exegencies of travel, not a fraction .or time will be lost. When we 'reflect, however, that the tour involves an expenditure of well over per week, it will be seen that it is only possible to make this gigantic enterprise pay by moving quickly. Mr Sousa’s band is recognised as comprising the highest paid artistic organisation of any nature in the world today. Sousa is himself a personage which the world has delighted to honour and residents of this district must consider themselves extremely fortunate in having an opportunity of hearing this great organisation under its distinguished leader.
