A good deal of time in the House on Tuesday was taken up with discussion on the Mokau laud transactions. The Acting-Premier read and tabled a long statement in defence ot the Government’s part in same. He wished to refer the matter to the Native Affairs Committee w'hich consisted ot nine Government supporters and tour members of the Opposition. Mr Massey, on the other hand, moved for a special committee consisting of five Ministerialists and five members of the Opposition. After a long debate the Government carried its point by 33 votes to 26.
