ELSIE HOLLAND’S DEATH.
FURTHER HEARING OF MURDER CHARGE. Auckland, August 9. The charges against Mrs Jane Burns Hartley, Mrs Mary Hassell, Mrs Charlotte Campbell, and James Edward O'Shaughnessy, of being accessories after the fact, of murder in connirctiou with the death of me yuirug woman Elsie Alexander .101,and on the night of June 14th, at the home of Mrs Martha O’Shaughnessy, at First Avenue, Kiugsland, came on betore Mr Frazer, S.M., to-day. Mr Mays, in opening the case for the Crown, said the lour accused were charged under section 92 of the Crimes Act. The parts played by each of them were various. The most important section of the evidence would be that of two witnesses to whom Mrs Campbell and Mrs Hassell made certain statements on the Saturday after Miss Holland died. It would seem clear from this evidence that Mrs Hassell was responsible lor the placing of the poison in the deceased's mouth, either after death or so shortly before death that deceased could not swallow it. After evidence similar to that given against Mrs O’Shaughnessy a lew days ago, the hearing of the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
