HAREM SKIRT TRAGEDY..
GIRL SHOT BY WRATHFUL LOVER. The Petit Journal’s correspondent at Bucharest gives an account of an extraordinary drama which has occurred in the Roumanian capital. A beautiful girl, who figured in the best society, had somehow taken an irresistible fancy to the “jupe-culotte,” while the gentleman to whom she was engaged held it in absolute abhorrence. As ill-luck would have it, he happened to meet her as she was walking out for the first time, and, as it proved, the last time, in her life in that objectionable garment. So great was his wrath at her wilfulness that he took out his revolver and shot her dead. He was arrested on the spot, and declared that he was not sorry for what he had done, as he would have been unhappy with a woman who acted in direct opposition to his wishes, and, on the other hand, he could not have lived without her, so he hoped that he would be sentenced to death.
