CHRISTCHURCH NORTH SEAT.
BY-EEECTION IN A FORTNIGHT. Yesterday afternoon Sir Arthur Guinness (Speaker of the House of Representatives) received formal notification that the death of Mr T. E. Taylor, late member for Christchurch North, has been registered. The House will be asked this evening to pass a resolution ordering the issuing of a warrant to the Clerk of Writs for an election. The writ will be returnable within twenty-one days, and as a week must be allowed for a possible second ballot, the date of the election must be about a fortnight hence.
MR. E. M. ISITT WIEE BE A CANDIDATE.
Christchurch, July 31. The Prohibition Party leaders have requested the Rev E. M. Isitt to be a candidate tor the Christchurch North seat, rendered vacant by the death of Mr Taylor, and be has consented.
Mr J. D. Hall will be the Oppo sition candidate.
The Labour Party is to meet on Friday to consider the question of selecting a candidate.
