FOOTBALL.
At Palmerston North on Saturday the return Horowhenua - Manawatu match will be played. When these teams previously met this season, three weeks ago, Manawatu were victorious by eight points to nil, but Horowhenua hope to turn the tables on Saturday. The following team has been chosen to represent Manawatu: — Hughes Codyre Taylor Chapman Waldegrave Stalker Ongley T revena Carroll Arnold Ward Harkness Baigeut Gray Hicks Emergencies : —Backs, Gillespie and Gardener ; forwards, Mullins and Hardie. The Horowhenua team will be as appeared in our last issue with the exception that Gobo will take Bowe’s place. Bowe recently had the misfortune to get one of his fingers rather badly crushed and it is not yet well enough for him to play again. It is unfortunate for Horowhehua that he will not be in the team as, in the opinion of the selector, he is the best forward in the Union. The committee, consisting of three members each appointed by the Horowhenua and Manawatu Unions to manage affairs in connection with the HorowhenuaMauawatu amalgamation for big “ rep ” matches will hold its first meeting in Palmerston on Saturday morning. The Horowhenua members .of the committee are Messrs Proctor, Burge, and Whibley. The first match that the amalgamated team ,will play will be against the Maori team at Palmerston on August sth and the team will be selected after Saturday’s game. Mr W. R. Burge, the secretary of the Horowhenua Union, has tendered his resignation on account of his removal from the districts and a meeting of the Union will be held at Devin to-morrow night to elect a new secretary and transact general business.
