IRISH LOYALTY.
London, July 6. The majority of the Dublin Corporation at an informal meeting repudiated the Lord Mayor’s claim to represent the city in receiving the King, and instructed the City Treasurer to retain the mace and sword until the next Council meeting. The resolution has been forwarded to the King and to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. It is announced that the Lord Mayor of Dublin, in State, will welcome the King. The Corporation of Dublin for years past has refused to present a loyal address to the King, its policy being regarded as a protest against the refusal to grant Home Rule to Ireland. This year the same course was followed, and produced a warm protest from a large section of the people of Dublin. The Lord Mayor a few days ago announced his intention of personally welcoming the King, and, as a Catholic, thanking him for removing the offensive clause from the Coronation oath.* Hence the Corporation’s latest move.
