BURGLARY.
TWO SHOPS ENTERED. Some time during last night the business premises of the Cash Trading Company and Mr F. Gabites were broken into, but fortunately the intruder had to go away empty-handed. In the case of the Cash Trading Company, Mr Banks, on arriving at the shop this morning, found the front door unlocked and the back door ajar. Knowing that everything had been safely locked up the night previous, he investigated and found that the cash box was missing. An attempt had also been made to open the till — which, however, contained only a few coppers, but was unsuccessful. It was evident that the burglar was in quest of money only as none of the stock was touched. The cash box, which was taken away, did not contain any money, it being the practice of Mr Bauckham to take his cash home every night. The cash box was picked up this morning in the Park by a boy. The lock had been forced but all it contained was a bank deposit receipt. The front door of Mr Gabites’ shop, which he had locked last night, was also found unlocked this morning and the inside of the premises showed signs that an unwelcome visitor had been there. A cash box, containing something over ,£l2 was on the premises but was overlooked by the person who effected the entry. The matter is in the hands of the police, who are investigating.
