S.M. COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS. The return of business done in the local S.M. Court for the quarter ended June 3°fh i s as follows:—Ten sittings of the Court were held ; two presided over by the Stipendiary Magistrate and eight by Justices. ' The □umber of civil cases heard were 72 j aggregate amount sued for rod was recovered. One hundred and seven plaints were entered, two distress warrants, nine judgment summonses, one order made on judgment summons, and one warrant of committal. Forty-one summonses and other processes were served by the bailiff within two miles of the borough, and 82 over that distance. 17s was paid in civil fees. Criminal returns are as under : Fourteen persons were summoned, apprehended or taken into custody; one person was discharged ; 13 were summarily convicted ; six fined ; two imprisoned ; orders were made against two, and one was convicted and discharged. Amount of criminal fees, 14s ; fines, £4 ss. Two old-age pensions were granted, and two are pending.
