CATHOLIC SOCIAL.

The second of the series of socials in aid of the Catholic Church funds was held in the Masonic Hall last night, and proved very successful, some 60 or 70 couples being present. The door was in splendid order for dancing, which was kept going merrily, to excellent music supplied by the leadership of Mr F. C. Berthold, till an early hour of the morning. Mrs Boyes and Misses McCallister, Berthold, Tenihan kindly played extras, and the duties of M.C. were capably discharged by Mr Hudson. Dr. Adams, who was also to have officiated in the control of the dancing, was unavoidably absent, and an apology was announced on his behalt. Non-dancers had their desires catered for by the provison of draught and card tables, and some interesting games were played. Concert items of a pleasing order were rendered at intervals, and first-class refreshments were provided. The contributors to the programme were Mrs Boyes, Miss McCallister, and Messrs Osborne, Richards, Knewstub, Simmons, Stevens, Redman, Smith, Denihan Hooker and Golder. Mesdames Boyes and Smith, and Mr F. C. Berthold were the accompanists. Much of the credit for the gratifying manner in which the entertainment passed off must be acknowledged to the secretary, Mr J. Golder.
