SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Foxtou Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night to settle balance-sheet, give notice of intention to strike rate, and general. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq)., and Crs Coley, Rimmer, Stewart, Speirs, Gibbs, Greig, Chrystall and Adams. The Council agreed that the balance-sheet as read by the Town Clerk shows the true and correct position of the borough funds and that the Mayor be authorised to sign and settle same. It was decided to give notice to strike and levy rates as follows : A general rate of threepence in the £, and a library rate of one-sixth of a penny in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property in the borough, and a sanitation charge of 17s per pan. The Mayor brought up the question of re-planting the trees in Park street. He said that this matter should be attended to as early as possible. After some discussion it was decided, on the motion of Cr Greig, seconded by Cr Adams, that the Town Clerk get quotations from Mayo, Palmerston N., and Hensen, Stoney Creek, for the requisite number of trees required. Several matters in connection with the Coronation Town Hall were dealt with in committee, and the meeting rose.
