FOOTBALL.

SATURDAY’S RESULTS. Seniors. Foxton 13 v. Shannon o. Taiuui 14 v. Hui Mai 5. Juniors. College 9 v. Foxton 3. Hui Mai 20 v. Weraroa 7. Koputaroa 24 v. Tainui 3. The weather on Saturday was again good for the above matches. The local seniors journeyed to Shannon to try conclusions with the local fifteen, and after a hard fought game succeeded in defeating the home team by 13 points to nil. The juniors travelled to Teviu and met College, but although not successful in vanquishing their opponents, put up a real good game, which ended in favour of College by 9 points to 3-

FOXTON V. SHANNON. Owing to the late arrival of the Foxton team the game did not start till after 3.30, and consequently the later stages cf the match were played in the dark. Shannon put up a good performance against their opponents, and should have scored at least a couple of tries had advantage been taken of the openings offered, Play for the first twenty minutes was very even. F'oxtou forwards then put more dash into their play and a fine rush ended in Cook touching down. The kick at goal proved fruitful. Shortly alter the same player snapped the ball from an opposing back and touched down. No goal resulted, and at half-time the score stood at 8 points to nil in favour of Foxtou. The secoud half was even more stubbornly contested than the first. Both teams put in some good work, and every inch of ground was sternly fought. Midway through the spell Haeana, after a good run, added a third try tor Foxton. The shot at goal was successful. This was the final score of the match, though the later stages were very fast. In the first spell, Royal (Foxton) received a nasty knock and had to retire for some minutes. In the secoud half, DalzieU (Shannon) received an injury and had to retire from the game, his place being taken by a substitute. Mr R. Burge was referee.

TAINUI v. HUI MAI. The glorious uncertainties of football were demonstrated in the above match, played at Otaki on Saturday. The local team played two juniors. Otaki backs gave a fine exhibition and the match was one of the best seen in Otaki for years. Right from the kick-off Tainui made the pace willing, and the game was fast and interesting. From a penalty Aston placed a neat goal for Tainui. Pirimi, who had been playing a great game, got possession in his own half, beat two men, made a great run, passed at the right moment to Nehu, who cut in, and in turn transferred to F. Wilson, and the latter threw the bailout to Henare, who scored. This piece of play was greeted with cheers from the crowd. Good line-kicking by Hakaraia and Aston, combined by the good all-round play of Tainui, kept Hui Mai on the defensive. From a mark beyond the 25 line, almost on the side-line, Henare placed a beautiful goal, making Tainui’s score 9 to nil. In the second half Hui Mai did much better. Aston aad Nehu mulling a ball, Hui Mai got over the line, but Taiuui’s full-back saved nicely. From a penally in a good position Martin made a poor attempt. Hui Mai’s luck was out, for two more very easy kicks right in front of the goal were lost, and on two occasions when scores seemed certain forward passes were made. Hui Mai’s full-back failing to take a ball, Henare got the leather on the bounce, and scored an easy try, Pirimi converting. From a forward scramble Koro scored Hui Mai’s only try, which Whareao converted. During the game J. Martin was ordered off the field for passing a remark to the referee. Mr J. Freeman had charge of the whistle.

COLLEGE v. FOXTON. This match was played on the Levin reserve on Saturday, and some excellent football was seen. The College boys were responsible for some really fine combination, while both teams showed dash and resource. When half-time sounded the College were leading by 6 points to 3. The second half was stubbornly fought out and attack after attack was made by Foxtou to cross their opponents line but their defence was too good. Before the whistle sounded College succeeded in crossing the line again. The attempt at goal failed. The game ending College 9 —Foxtou 3. Mr D. Musgrove controlled the game;

HUI MAI v. WRRAROA. Weraroa journeyed to Mauakau on Saturday and suffered their first defeat this season. The game throughout was of an interesting nature, but on the day’s play Hui Mai were superior to their opponents, and when the whistle sounded uo-side the home team had scored 20 points to their opponents 7. Mr A. Thomas refereed.

KOPUTAROA v. TAINUL This match was played at Koputaroa and a fine display of football was given. In the first spell the visitors had the advantage, and when hall-time was called they had a lead of 3 points. The second spell was entirely in

favour of the home team, who put on six tries, three of which were converted. Mr J. Smith gave every satisfaction as reiereo. THK “RIM 1 " TKAM.
