KAKA TO BE EXECUTED.
DEATH SENTENCE CONFIRMED. Wellington, Yesterday. The Executive has decided to adhere to its previous decision that the sentence of death passed upon Tahi Kaka for murder of the gumdigger Freeman must be carried out. The date ut the execution has to be fixed by the sheriff of the Auckland district, and it is understood that it will be within a few days. This decision had been arrived at previously by the Executive, but the matter was reopened upon urgent representations by petition and deputation. His Excellency the Governor attended the Executive at 10 o’clock on Saturday, all Ministers of the Crown in New Zealand being present. The deliberations lasted until 1.30 p.m., an adjournment being taken at that time, it being understood further information was being secured by telegram from Auckland. The question was further considered at 3 o’clock, and this meeting lasted until 6 o’clock, every possible fact relating to the matter being considered. The Acting-Prime Minister, Hon James Carroll, when announcing the decision of the Executive to a New Zealand Times representative, said that there was no further statement to make, except that nothing' represented in favour of the condemned man had been overlooked in coming to the determination to let the previous decision stand.
