HIMATANGI—WAIRAU COLLISION.
Wellington, This Day,
The magisterial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the recent collision on the Manawatu River between the steamers Himatangi and Wairau will open at the Magistrate’s Court at io a.m. on Monday, June 26, and will be presided over by Dr. A M‘Arthur, S.M. Captains C. Post and F. Black have been appointed assessors. Messrs Findlay, Dalziell and Co. have been retained for the owners of the Himitangi, Messrs Gray and Jackson ior the master of that vessel, Messrs Wilford and Levi for the owner ol the Wairau, and Messrs Herdmau and Kirkcaldie for the master. The evidence of Mr A. H. Wooduutt, first mate of the Himitangi, was taken at the Wellington Hospital yesterday afternoon, as that witness is shortly to undergo an operation.
