CORONATION HALL.
RAISING OF FUNDS. GUARANTEED BY COUNCILLORS. At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Mayor mentioned, in connection with the Government subsidy on Coronation Hall, that advice had been received from the Government to the effect that this subsidy was payable only upon money voted from borough funds or upon subscription by the public. There was some discussion as to ways and means of getting the money in order to earn the subsidy, and it was eventually decided that the Mayor and Crs. Greig and Speirs be a committee to devise a scheme for raising the money.
At a later stage of the meeting a list was handed round to Councillors to see what could be raised in the room, and a sum of £l3O was guaranteed. Particulars of the donors will be given in another issue. It was decided that the town be canvassed lor subscriptions in order that the full subsidy might be gained, and we believe the public will respond readily. If the amount raised by subscription can be made up to £250 this will be subsidised by another £250, making £SOO which the Council will have to make the hall up-to-date in every particular and thereby increase its earning power considerably.
