IMPORTANCE OF OUR MAILS.

(to the editor.) Sir, —The leading note in your first column of Thursday’s issue deals with a very important subject to every business person in the town, viz., our mail matter. Now, can you tell me what we pay the Government one pound per year for ? I suppose it is for the privilege of having one out of the two daily southern mails sorted into our boxes on day of arrival. Of course, we ourselves are to blame in the matter for sitting down under present conditions. Like the average Britisher we put up with a lot under the cloak of officialdom that we would not tolerate for a moment in a private business. If the postmaster required any assistance in the affair, I would suggest a meeting of the private box holders, to be held in, say, the Council Chamber, and there and then draw up a strong letter of protest to the Postmaster-General on the subject. It may be that he would be required to know that we only get halt our southern mail on day of arrival. Thanking you for drawing attention to a longfelt want, —I am, etc.,
