A six-roomed house in Peter Street, owned and occupied by Mr 11. Shepherd, was, with its contents, destroyed by fire at 5.30 o’clock this morning. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. The insuiances total ,£265. Dakgaviele, May 31.
The police received a report from Wamiateuui, 20 miles north of Kaihu, stating that a farmer named Kdward Whiting, aged 22 years, a single man, has been missing since Sunday last. Late yesterday search parties found his dead body in a creek. A report has been received from the same locality stating that several settlers were poisoned as a result of eating wild honey. Gisborne, May 31.
A fire was discovered in the New Zealand Shipping Company’s wool store last night. Four bales of wool were damaged. Incendiarism is suspected.
