MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office last night. Present: —Messrs B. G. Gower (chairman). O. R. Robinson, F. S. Easton and W. S. Carter. The Clerk reported the amount to credit of the loan account current at ,£4 16s Bd. The fixed deposit on this account, is due on June 25th. The general account is at debit £1 15s 1 id, and No. 3 account ,£307 9s 6d at debit. Advice has been received that the new valuation roll will be forwarded shortly. After the accounts to be passed that evening had been paid the accounts would stand, loan account ,£56 18s 6d, general £l2 os nd, and No. 3 £369 2s rod all at debit. The Clerk was instructed to make application to the Manawatu County Council for a subsidy on account of expenditure on stop banks at Moutoa. It was pointed out that the stop banks erected would prevent a great volume of water from running over the Moutoa road and consequently the upkeep of that road would be less. Cr Barber had stated at a meeting of ratepayers that he would recommend that a subsidy be granted to the Board. Accounts amounting to £6l 15s qd against loan account, ,£lO 5s against general account and 13s gd against No. 3 account were passed for payment. The New Zealand Hemp Process and By-Products Co. Ltd., wrote stating that they had no objection to the Board’s proposal to divert the main drain so as it would pass through the corner ot their property provided that the Board undertook to re-erect any fences taken down in the construction of the drain.
The Engineer reported as follows : “ I beg to report as follows on the progress of the work for the past month. On account of the sand the record is not good, but there is little doubt that by Monday next good dredging country will again be met with, and the progress up to the average. I have completed the pegging and levelling of the deviation I mentioned in my last report. The total length of which is 47 chains; two chains of this length being now completed, leaving 45 chains to be dredged to reach the end of the Government drain. The total number of hours worked has been 176, and the number of yards excavated 133, which gives an average ot 0.8 yard per hour. I have not yet been successful in procuring another length of chain to the requisite size; the only place yet untried is Auckland, failing that place 1 recommend that an order be sent to England through the agents (Messrs Richardson and Blair) for Priestman.
‘‘lt will also be as well to order 50 feet of wire rope the same as before. “ The balance in hand for the Duck Creek embankment work can now be paid to the contractor, subject, however, to a reduction for the first three chains of 45 cubic yards, being the amount required to make up the bank to the specified height and width. The amount to be deducted is £1 6s 3d.” Other matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
