SOCIAL AT WHITAUNUI.

On Friday last a very pleasant social was held at Whitaunui (Moutoa). It was the first of a series of fortnightly socials to be held during the winter. The management committee deserve great credit for the manner in which the room had been decorated with ferns, autumn leaves, and berries, forming a prominent part. Mr Greig was in the chair, and in a short address expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present and gave a hearty welcome to the visitors. He said the Company was proud of its employees, who were well-conducted, and of the good tone which prevailed. At the end of the programme, on the motion of Mr Carter, seconded by Mr Galland, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers. After refreshments had been handed round, the company dispersed, all expressing appreciation of the well-arranged programme. The following programme was submitted; —

Overture, Miss Mcdonald ; song, “Down the Vale,” Miss Paget; song, 1 ‘ Mary,” Mr Buglass ; violin solo, Mr Nicholas; song, “ Idle Words,” Mrs Hall; song, (comic), encored, Mt Tates; overture, Miss McDonald ; song, ‘‘Ora Pro Nobis,” Mr Buglass; trio, (piano, mandolin, and banjo), Miss McDonald, Messrs Nicholasand Hall; song (comic), encored, Mr Tales; song,‘‘Summer Wind,” Miss Paget; violin solo, Mr Nicholas; song, “ Annie Laurie,” Mrs Hall, (encored), ‘‘The Flight of Ages”; song, Miss McDonald; duet, ” Excelsior,” Mrs Hall and Miss Paget; song, ‘‘May Morning,” Miss Paget. Miss McDonald made a most efficient accompanist.
