THE HIMATANGI SOLD.
TO CARRY FISH. Messrs Eeviu and Co. have sold their coastal steamer Himatangi to the Chatham Islands Fishing Company for use in taking stores to the blue-cod fishing depot at Owenga, Chatham Islands, and to bring fish back to Wellington. As the Himatangi will be required to make about one trip a month to the Chathams, she will, during the intervals, continue in her usual trade between Westport and Foxtou, and other coastal ports. Messrs Levin and Co- will retain the agency of the Himatangi, except when she makes her monthly trip to Owenga. The new owners will shortly have one of the Himatangi’s holds insulated, in order to bring the fish to Wellington in a refrigerated condition, as is done ac present by the Nora Niven. The latter vessel will withdraw shortly from the Owenga-Wellington fish-carrying trade. The Himatangi is expected to make the run between Owenga and Wellington in about 52 hours.
The Himatangi was built in 1599 by J. Fullerton and Co., Paisley, Scotland, for Messrs Eevin and Co. She is a steel vessel, 136 feet in length, 24 feet beam, with a 9 teet draught. Her tonnage is 393 gross, 149 net. The engines are by Messrs Muir and Houston, Glasgow. Captain Manley and his crew will remain on the Himatangi.
