THE GAS WORKS.

APRIL’S WORKING. At last night’s Com cil meeting the Town Clerk reported on the working of the gas works for the month of April as follows: —The quantity of gas manufactured was 229,000 ft., 210 gallons of tar and j 1 tons of coke were also made. The amount of coal used was 21 tons. Three tons newt of coke and 166,400 ft of gas were sold to consumers. The receipts amounted to ,£l3l 7s id and the expenditure totalled ,£lO9 12s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £2l 14s rod. The manager of the gas works (Mr Stunuell) reports that the men are making good progress with the work of setting up the new bench of six retorts, the arch being in, and they are now proceeding with the more intricate parts of the setting.
