THE HEMP INDUSTRY.

MARCH GRADING RETURNS. The total number of bales of hemp graded during the mouth of March was 9,270, as compared with 14,540 for the corresponding mouth of last year, a decrease of 5,270 bales. For the twelve mouths ended March 31st the number graded was 113,528, as compared with 104,034 tor the previous twelve months, or an increase of 9,494 bales. Worked out on a percentage basis the quantity of each grade dealt with during the mouth was as follows: Superior, nil; fine, 5.39 ; good fair, 42.96 ; fair, 48.75 ; common, 2.73 ; rejected, 0.13 ; condemned, 0.4. The quantity of tow dealt with during the month was 2,480 bales, as compared with 4,833 bales .or the corresponding mouth of last year, a decrease of 2,353 bales. The number of bales of hemp and tow dealt with at the various ports was as under :
