VALEDICTORY.
Referring to the several changes that have place at the local post office recently, we have just heard that prior to Mr Spelmau's departure the local staff presented him with a silver cigarette holder. Mr Clemett, who made the presentation, referred to Mr Spelmau's sterling qualities, and incidentally remarked that it would be hard for the most fastidious to find fault with Mr Spelman, who, by his amiable dispositiouand ability, had commanded the respect and goodwill of the whole staff. The speaker prophesied a successful career for Mr Spelman. Mr Furrie endorsed all that Mr Clemett had said, and dwelt on the good feeling that had existed between himself and Mr Spelman. Mr Weller, who was transferred to Auckland, was also presented with a silver match box, and Mr Clemett, who made the presentation, commented on the value of a combined office training for lads with any ability at all. Mr Weller had made splendid progress, and was a credit to the office.
