YESTERDAY’S ELECTION.

For yesterday’s poll the District Electors List countained 699 names, and out of this number 418 valid votes were cast —a percentage of 59.79, as against 52.76 per cent, on the occasion of the Council election two years ago. Two thousand nine hundred and seventy-eight individual votes we:e cast, giving an average per voting paper of 7.12, as against 7.26 two years ago. The number of votes cast for each candidate and the percentages for this and the last general election are as under :

At a by-electiou held in October 1909, there were three candidates for one seat and the votes recorded for each, worked out on a percentage basis, were as lollows: — Stewart 49*80 Dalhousie 31*6(1, Chrystall 18 *53. At the previous general election there were thirteen candidates for the nine seats as against twelve yesterday, and consequently candidates, to hold their ground, should show an increase ol 7.69 per cent, over last poll. After allowing for this percentage increases by candidates were shown as follows; — Adams 15.65, Stewart 10.80, Gibbs 9.62 and Rimmer 6.n. Coley and Speirs went back a little, the former by 1.15 per cent, and the latter by 1.16 per cent.

In the Harbour Board election 407 valid votes were recorded, the number recorded for each candidate and the percentages being as follows : Heunessy 282, 69,28 ; Gibbs 184, 45.20 ; Perreau 177, 43.48; and Rimmer 218, 29.23. In this election 761 individual votes was recorded, being at the rate of 1.86 for each voting paper.
