BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council, to make special order authorising the raising of a loan to pay portion of the cost of the Beach Road, to receive tenders and general, was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.), and Crs Coley, Rimmer, Gibbs, Speirs, Stewart and Adams.
The special order authorising the raising of a loan ot to pay half cost of Beach road was passed. Tenders for the purchase and removal of the old Council Chambers and tor the erection of a wash-house at the pound cottage were dealt with in committee. There was only one tender for the former, and as it was considered too low the Council decided to have the building removed to the back of the present Council Chambers to be used as a storage shed, etc. On the motion of Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Adams, it was resolved that tenders be called by letter for the removal and re-erec-tion of the building. The accepting of a tender to be left in the hands of the Mayor and Town Clerk.
The tender of Richard A. Speirs at £2,9 lIS was the °nly one re ‘ ceived for the erection of a washhouse at the pound cottage, and this was accepted on the motion of Cr Gibbs, seconded by Cr Coley.
In connection with the matter of the formation of Cook Street Extension, which had been held over from the previous meeting, it was decided on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gibbs, that the sum of .£l5O be inserted in bond to be signed by George Coley for the formation and metalling of Cook Street Extension; the work to be done within nine months under such conditions as may he laid down by the new Council, and that the plan referred to in the said bond be sealed and endorsed by the Mayor and Crs Rimmer and Speirs. The council having inspected the cess pit laid down by Mr F. Spi ers, it was decided on the mot ion of Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Rimmer, that he be informed that the vent pipe from same must be raised six feet higher than present pipe.
Cr Coley mentioned that there was a road grader in Wellington for sale, and he understood it could be purchased cheap, and it was decided to make enquiries as to price of same and full particulars.
The Council rose at 7.50p.m,
