VALEDICTORY.
On Friday afternoon the pupils of the State School were assembled in the quadrangle to bid farewell to Miss Slattery, assistant teacher. The head teacher spoke of the good work done by Miss Slattery while in the school, also of the kindly interest which she has always shown in the childrens’ welfare, and on behalf of the pupils and the staff he expressed the wish that Miss Slattery would have a pleasant trip Home. On behalf of the oupils of Standards IV., V., VI. and VII. Miss Ethel Spring presented Miss Slattery with a handsome silver mounted writing case, fitted with silver pen and pencil as a small token of the esteem in which she is held by the children. Miss Slattery suitably responded, thanking the children for their gift, which would always remind her of the pleasant time spent in Foxton School. Hearty ckeers for Miss Slattery brought the proceedings to a close. During the week Miss Slattery was the recipient of many useful and valuable presents from individual pupils, also of a handsome silver tray from the girls of Standard 111. her late class.
