IS IT PLAGUE?
THREE AUCKDAND CASES. Two men and a woman have beeu under treatment for a week in the quarantine area at the Auckland hospital for an illness, the symptoms of which are said to have resembled a mild form ol bubonic plague. They were residents of Onehunga, where one of the men coi ducted a fruit and confectionery business in two small shops. He was assisted by his wife and a man who is the third patient. The three patients are still in a serious condition. Inquiry at the hospital on Monday afternoon elicited the information that there has beeu no change since entering the institution a week ago. A tent was erected alongside the quarantine cottage in view of further cases being brought in, but this fortunately has not been needed, aud it is believed that the trouble has been effectively stamped out. The shop at Onehunga from which the three cases were taken has been thoroughly disinfected by the public health officials, and portions of the property condemned and destroyed, so that all danger of the disease spreading is now believed to be over. DICATH OF A PATIENT. Auckland, March 28. One of the three plague patients from Onehunga, a married man, died to-day.
