HIMATANGI WINS THE SHIKDD. The final match in the local Association's competition for the Austin shield was played on the Park pitch yesterday afternoon. At the commencement of the season a series of nine matches had been arranged, but after playing these it was found that the teams were still on level terms, each side having won three matches aud one being drawn. A final match being necessary, it was agreed to play it on the local pitch. The competition all through had beeu fairly even, aud it was generally expected that yesterday’s match would have been a close one. It however resulted in the easiest of easy wins for Himatangi. Robinson won the toss from Redgrave aud elected to take the field, Himataugi’s skipper and Cleland opening to the bowling of Edliu aud Whibley. Runs came slowly at the start, two being scored off the first over, and one off the second. With the score at 19, Cleland put one of Edlin’s into the slips, where it was held by Howe. Rore joined his captain aud these two took the score to 32, when Redgrave hit one back to Kdlin, who brought off a beautiful one-handed catch. Death came, but was clean bowled first ball. Albrey followed aud after scoring five was also bowled by Edliu. Two runs later the bowling was changed, Whibley being replaced by Howe, who bowled Rore with his second ball Five for 40. Edliu’s next over was a maiden. Howe bowled Raikes in his second over, his average then being two wickets for no runs. The eighth wicket fell at 49 and the innings closed for 56, of which total Redgrave scored 22. Foxtou’s fielding was fair. The bowling of Edliu aud Howe was really good. After afternoon lea had beeu partaken of, Foxton commenced their innings. In order to secure a win not a very large score was necessary, and the local batsmen were instructed to play carefully and take no chances. How well they followed these instructions will be noted by the scores. Death opened the bowling aud with his fourth ball took Whibley’s middle stump, 1 for 0. Howe followed aud met a similar fate with the last ball of the first over, 2 for o. Cook was next. A single was scored aud then Cook touched one into the slips, where it was snapped up, 3 for 1. Robinson came in aud aiter scoring two ran himself out, 4 for 3. Two runs later Clingberg was bowled, 5 for 5. Knewstub came aud went without any further addition to the score. Edliu was the seventh man to go aud the score was then six. Bullard met the same fate as the others, 8 for 7. York scored another single aud was then caught, 9 for 8. The last wicket fell without any further runs being added, the innings realising 8 runs. The bowling of Death aud Redgrave was first-class. As the score indicates, there was no fielding to do. Messrs Dunn aud Shannon umpired and Mr Nye took the scores. The full scores were as under : HIMATANGI.
