CRICKET.

On the Park pitch yesterday atternoon Himatangi defeated Foxton by the narrow margin of four runs, after a very interesting game. Both clubs were represented by practically their full strength. One feature of the match was the very small scoring, the total for both teams innings being under 80 runs.

Himatangi won the toss and elected to bat, Redgrave and Barber opening to the bowling of Whibley and Edlin. With the score at four Edlin clean bowled Barber. In the next over Redgrave skied one but Whibley dropped it. Edlin, who was bowling particularly well, bowled Bethune with the first ball of his second over, and in the following over Redgrave was run out, the ball being finely fielded by Munro. The whole innings was finished in well under an hour, Redgrave, 12, being the only double figure scorer. Of the Foxton bowlers Edlin showed splendid form and his average at the conclusion of the innings was six wickets for 18 runs. With only a score of 39 to beat Foxtou’s prospects of a win were very bright, but the batting failed miserably and the final score was 35, of which Howe, the top scorer, contributed 9. Death was mainly responsible for Foxton’s downfall as he captured seven wickets for 14 runs. HIMATANGI.
