AN ENTERPRISING LEVIN FIRM.

In our advertising columns will be found a business announcement from Mr W. B. Macintosh, carriage builder, of Levin. Mr Macintosh undertakes the building of vehicles of all descriptions, and guarantees all workmanship and materials used to be of the best. Mr Maciutosh has been in business in Levin for the past ten years. He started in a shop 16ft. x 24ft., and his business has grown with the town until at the present time his factory in Queen street, which is one of the most up-to-date on the coast, occupies a space of 35ft. x 75ft. The front portion of the building is two-storeyed. Mr Macintosh has recently purchased a section facing Cambridge street in order to get a back entrance to his premises. The power plant for the factory is a six-horse oil engine, which drives a band saw, circular saws, planer, drill, grinder, spoke tanging and felloe machine, boring machine, and lathes. Mr Macintosh is just about to iustal water power for the purpose of driving the smaller machinery. The blacksmith’s shop is fitted with a ‘‘ Champion ” blower, upsetter and welder for handling all sizes of tyres, welding axles, tyre benders, etc. Mr Macintosh is also having erected a power hammer, which will be driven by water, Mr Maciutosh does not undertake shoeing, devoting the whole of his energies to the coachbuildiug trade. Outside the main building is the tyreheating furnace and sinking platform for fitting the tyres on to the wheel. The latter is the latest idea in connection with the fitting of tyres, which can be done much quicker and better than by the old method. Mr Maciutosh also has installed the latest rubber tyring machine and brazing machines. He carries large stocks of wheel timber and Australian hardwood. He undertakes all classes of boat building. Mr Maciutosh will be pleased to quote the residents of Foxtou for any class of vehicle, and guarantees satisfaction.*
