A MURDERED COUNTESS.
Rome, March 6. Queen Elena of Italy is taking care of Trigona’s two daughters. Baron Paterno, who murdered the Countess, is described as a gambler and blackmailer. Countess Trigona was little more than a girl. She was induced to pay Paterno’s debts until his extortions developed into a scandal, compelling her retirement from a brilliant position. The tragedy has caused much grief in Court circles. (Baron Vincent Paterno, a Sicilian, grievously wounded himself with a revolver in a private room in a Rome hotel, after there killing with a hunting knife the Sicilian Countess Giulia Trigona, who was Lady-in-Waiting to the Royal Conrt. The Countess recently separated from her husband.) The Sicilian Countess Giulia Trigona (a Lady-in-Waiting to the Royal Court), who was killed with a hunting-knife by Baron Vincent Paterno (also a Sicilian), had resolved to cease her illicit re lations with Paterno and devote herself to her three children. Paterno resented this decision, which supplied the motive for the tragedy. Baron Paterno, who shot himself after killing the Countess, is now out of danger. The tragedy caused an extraordinary sensation in Rome, Florence and Palermo, where both parties were prominent. Paterno was in financial straits, and demanded money from the Countess, who refused his request and announced that she was severing her connection with him.
